NIM tasks organisations on corporate governance to boost workplace dynamics

LAGOS - The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has emphasised the importance of adopting excellent corporate governance practices to enhance workplace dynamics.


The President of NIM, Dr Christiana Atako, said this during the institute’s annual lecture with the theme: “The Pragmatic Pathway to Excellent Corporate Dynamics and Governance”, on Tuesday in Lagos.


Atako said that the NIM annual lecture serves as a platform to discuss pressing and contemporary issues related to governance and leadership, which are essential for the development of the national economy.


She described corporate or workplace dynamics as the complete mix of how people interacted when they worked together.


According to her, the theme of the conference will address issues from scant regard for the dynamics of the workplace.

She noted that consequences of poor office dynamics included burnout and stress, employee dissatisfaction, high turnover rate, decreased productivity and outright inefficiency and ineffectiveness.


The NIM boss said that strong workplace dynamics, on the other hand, could help a team perform at its best and deliver extraordinary results.


She added that while some teams tended to be naturally helpful and nurturing, others might be more fragmented dysfunctional.


“There is a direct correlation between adherence to the nuances of corporate dynamics and institutional performance.

“Hence, the compelling need to draw the attention of the nation, businesses and those who manage men and materials at different levels, to the issue.


“To get the best out of an organisation’s workforce and equally set the organisation on the path of development and progress, there is need to make a positive change to meet the challenges posed by dynamics of the workplace.


“This is by putting the right governance and leadership model in place,” Atako said.


She noted that the institute would remain committed to engendering excellence in Nigeria through good corporate governance and effective leadership.


“It is our desire and hope that this lecture will galvanise us to embrace and put into practice the veritable nuggets that we would have gleaned,” she said.


Dr Rotimi Oladele, Executive Secretary, Institute of Entrepreneurs of Nigeria, noted that management’s adoption of excellent corporate dynamics would provide the best makeup of structure, features, vision, core values and nuances of an organisation.


Oladele said management must engage conserted efforts aimed at easing and accomplishing a task, improving a situation or achieving a goal via calculated rules, standards, collaboration and reinforcement.


He noted that for both the complexity and catalystic nature of management

and governance, there was need to earmark learning as a continuum.


Oladele said that management functioning in whatever position must collaborate and communicate to achieve set organisational goals and objectives.


According to him, management cannot ignore how to learn because it has to adjust daily to change by several combinations.


“Management should be refiring the core values of the organisation, the human capital, products and services and the reputation fabrics with continuous capacity building to retain excellent corporate dynamics and governance,” he said.

Unruly passenger of Ibom Air faces flight disruption charges -- NCAA confirms
