2023 Presidential Elections: Man pleads guilty to votes buying in court


LAGOS - One wahab Hammed, an alleged member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to vote buying during the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.


Hammed told an Ikeja High Court that he could not speak in English or broken Language and wished for the charge to be read in the Yoruba Language.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and bribery preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).


The EFCC Prosecutor, Samuel Daji, told the court that the defendant had on Feb. 25, conspired with one Segun Ijitola, now at large, to pay voters during the 2023 Presidenti and National Assembly Elections.


Daji further stated that the defendant committed the offence at Unit 28, Gbaja Girls Junior High School, in Surulere.


The prosecutor said that on the said date, the defendant and his accomplice bribed voters at the Unit 28.

Daji, then passionately, prayed the court to accommodate the matter on Dec. 7 to enable the commission fine tune the facts for review.


The prosecution all conceded to remanding the defendant in EFCC custody.


Daji told the court that the offences contravened Sections 121 (1) and (5); 121 (1) and 1 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022.


The Defence Counsel, Mr Olabiyi Ademola, prayed the court to remand the defendant in the custody of EFCC since the matter would be called on Dec. 7.


Justice Ismail Ijelu ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC custody and should be produced on Dec. 7 for review of facts and judgement.

Unruly passenger of Ibom Air faces flight disruption charges -- NCAA confirms
