NCS restates commitment to award excellence in ICT

LAGOS - Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) on Wednesday restated its commitment to granting excellence in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector through its National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA)


NCS President, Dr Muhammad Sirajo, who said this at a news conference in Lagos, described NITMA as a strategic innovative and forward looking platform for promoting Information Technology (IT) development.


According to Sirajo, there has been tremendous developments and ICT penetration even within government sector that should be recognised.

He said that generally, award encourages one to do more and better hence the reason for it.


According to him, as the acknowledged professional association advocating the development of an inclusive, globally competitive, prosperous, and knowledge-based Nigeria, NCS annually recognises, celebrates, and rewards outstanding excellence.


“It also celebrates contributions of individuals, state governments and institutions, in the acceleration of IT development in Nigeria and the Diaspora through a unique national platform NITMA.


“The awards recognise outstanding governors and individuals that are making enormous investments in information technology.

“Many nominations were received for the award categories which will be reviewed by the screening committee following some laid down guidelines.


“I wish to state that NCS as an objective Society allows the selection process to be IT driven by opinion poll through online voting,’’ he said.


He said that the Planning Committee would only collate the polls and put forth the order of scores and announce the winners in each category.


According to him, the NITMA award will also witness the conferment of the most prestigious Professional Fellowship on deserving members of NCS


“Members who are recognised as authorities and have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the growth of information technology will be conferred with Honourary Fellowship.’’


Sirajo said some have distinguished extraordinary service and commitment to IT growth in Nigeria.


He said that NCS remains the foremost and number one IT professional association in Nigeria and African largest IT Society.


According to him, NCS has been the voice of information technology professionals for the past four decades now. Presently, with over 20,000 members spread across all sectors of the economy.


The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Nov. 21 at the Muson centre in Lagos.

Dati lauds FAAN MD for prioritising safety trainings

Editor 1 LAGOS - An aviation professional, Mr Yakubu Dati, has applauded the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, for prioritising training of aviation professionals to match current industry needs. Dati, a former General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, made the commendation on Friday in Lagos. Alleged 150m fraud: Brila media condemns malicious campaign orchestrated by former employees

Editor 1 Brila Media Group, a leading sports radio network, has revealed a tale of deceit and betrayal by former employees who were allegedly  involved in over a N150 million fraud scheme. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brila Group, Ms Debbie Larry-Izamoje, while addressing newsmen in Lagos said that the individuals, who were part of the company's team for several years, allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated web of lies, diverting funds, fabricating invoices and manipulating the system to embezzle over N150 million. Debbie, however, said that when the alleged criminal activities were discovered, the former employees resorted to a malicious campaign to discredit Brila Media and its founder, Dr. Larry Izamoje.
